It was built to commemorate the war dead from the Satsuma Rebellion to the Pacific War and the victims of the atomic bomb in the former Yasumura area.

[Date of erection] May 20, 1961 [Erected by] Yasu Memorial Repair Committee [History] This monument was erected to commemorate the war dead from the Satsuma Rebellion to the Pacific War and the victims of the atomic bomb (373 people. Of these, 131 were victims of the atomic bomb, including 78 members of the Volunteer Citizen Corps and 53 mobilized students). On either side of the monument are memorial monuments with the names of the victims engraved on them. Every autumn, a memorial service organized by the bereaved families' association is held at a local temple (on a rotating basis).
