The simple inscriptions carved into the two atomic bomb stones condense the wish that people who stand in front of the monument will think carefully about the tragedy of 50 years ago and the wishes of Hiroshima.
[Date of erection] July 2, 1995 [Erected by] Hiroshima City Atomic Bomb Victims Council, Saeki Branch [History] As the 50th anniversary of the atomic bombing approaches, the long-held wish of members of the Hiroshima City Atomic Bomb Victims Council, Saeki Branch, to erect a monument has been realized. The wavy curved monument is surrounded by five rings of stones collected from the five former towns and villages that make up Saeki Ward, and 10 atomic bomb stones from the former Hiroshima City Hall building are placed on top of it. A list of nearly 10,000 people who died between the bombing and the erection of the monument is buried underground in front of the monument. The monument and the five rings of stones surrounding it contain the hope that in this milestone year of the 50th anniversary of the atomic bombing, Hiroshima's voice for peace will rise high into the sky from Saeki Ward and spread throughout Japan and even the world. The simple inscriptions carved into the two atomic bomb stones condense the visitors' wish that when they stand in front of the monument, they will think carefully about the tragedy of 50 years ago and the wishes of Hiroshima.
