The atomic bomb hit the bridge 1.71 kilometers from the hypocenter. Part of the bridge was broken by the blast and fell into the river.

Hijiyama Bridge, which spans the Kyobashi River, was completed in September 1939 (Showa 14). It had a reinforced concrete bridge girder. On August 6, 1945 (Showa 20), the bridge was hit by the atomic bomb, 1.71 kilometers from the hypocenter. Part of the bridge girder broke off in the blast of the atomic bomb and fell into the river. Even today, the bridge still retains its original appearance.
