The bridge was 1.91 km from the hypocenter when the bomb was dropped. Even now, it serves as both a train and a train bridge, and is a vital part of Hiroshima's transportation system.

Kojin Bridge, which spans the Enko River, was built in 1939 (Showa 14) using the Gerber method. The bridge girders were made of reinforced concrete. The bridge was hit by the atomic bomb on August 6, 1945 (Showa 20), 1.91 kilometers from the hypocenter. Although the railings were damaged by the blast, it served as an evacuation route for many victims. Even today, the bridge is used by trains and other vehicles, and is an important transportation hub in Hiroshima.
