An island where ancient nature remains
It is one of the most scenic spots in Setonaikai National Park, Japan's first national park. There is a legend that a hermit lived on Sensuijima, and it is said that the island's name comes from the fact that it is "an island so beautiful that it makes the hermit drunk." Rai Sanyo, a scholar from the Edo period, coined the phrase "Sansui-mei" (mountain and water beauty) after seeing the beauty of Sensuijima and the Seto Inland Sea. The "Five Color Rocks," a series of rocks in five colors - blue, red, yellow, white, and black - stretches for over 200m and is a rare and precious rock formation even across Japan. Sensuijima has remained untouched since ancient times, so you can feel the energy of nature with your whole body.
