Takayama was born as the fourth generation of a maker of Hiroshima Buddhist altars, a traditional Hiroshima craft, and creates works that pursue the beauty of Japan and inherit the traditional lacquer painting techniques that have been honed over generations. Although Hiroshima experienced an atomic bomb, the techniques that have been passed down since the Edo period have been passed down uninterrupted to the present day.
