Japan's leading Zen meditation hall West Japan's premier Rinzai sect Omotoyama
This temple was built in 1397 by Kobayakawa Shunpei, who welcomed the famous monk Guchu Shukyu, who traveled to China during the Yuan Dynasty to study. It is known as one of Japan's leading Zen training centers, and is visited by many people as a training site for companies and schools. The temple buildings are surrounded by old cedar groves, and are particularly beautiful during the fresh greenery of summer and the changing leaves of autumn, when the temple is bustling with tourists.
