Oysters are the specialities in Hiroshima in autumn/winter.
There are various types of shops, but among them, the “oyster hut” has an funny image. If you haven't try it yet, don't worry, we are going to explain how to do.
My first “oyster hut”
Two systems
The shops are divided into “all-you-can-eat shops” where you have a time limit and “general stores” where you can order and eat normally without a time limit. Choose a store with a system that suits you depending on your appetite.
By the way, in the case of all-you-can-eat shops, you may have to order in units of 1kg, and there are about 10 to 12 oysters with shells. In addition, charcoal charges are charged for each table in any system (about a few hundred yen).
Clothes
Since oyesters are grilled over charcoal, your clothes will inevitably smell the smoke. Therefore, it is best to avoid “fluttering fashionable clothes” as much as possible, and wear casual clothes that are easy to move in.
What to bring
There are many shops where you are free to bring in seasonings, so if you want to taste your own taste, you might want to try various things. Also, there are shops that allow soft drinks and alcohol for a fee in some cases, so check before you go.
Introducing “Oyster Hut”
Milky Tetsuo's oyster hut/Ujina store (Minami-ku, Hiroshima-shi)
Speaking of the original oyster hut in Hiroshima, it is “Milky Tetsuko's oyster hut”. It is open only during the “season when oysters are the most delicious” from around October to May every year, and only grilled oysters are offered.
In addition, there are oyster rice and seafood as well, so it feels like a little BBQ. It is situated in the Hiroshima Oyster Road business. It's not an all-you-can-eat format, but about 3,000 yen per normal adult.
Kusatsu oyster hut (Nishi-ku, Hiroshima)
This is a directly managed store run by producers. If you want to eat delicious oysters in season, it is open until around the end of April every year. There are only three menu for grilled oyster. First is an all-you-can-eat plan for 1,500 yen, second is a bucket of 2,000 yen, and third is a 60-minute all-you-can-eat plan. A bucket is recommended for those who want to eat slowly and generously. It opens around November every season.
Oyster hut Ryumeimaru (Higashihiroshima City)
It is “Oyster Hut Ryumeimaru” in Akitsu-cho Kazahaya, which is open only on weekends. Because it is a store directly managed by a producer, the freshness is outstanding. The location where you can eat oysters while looking at Mitsu Bay feels great. It is also reputed to have a high cosiness performance. You can eat oysters throughout the year, but it's natural that oyster season is still recommended.
In addition to grilled oysters, oyster mixed rice, fried oysters, and raw oysters are also abundant on the menu. For an adult who eats normally, it would cost around 3,000 yen is a guide.
Shimada Fisheries (Hatsukaichi City)
A location where you can see the torii gate of the World Heritage Itsukushima Shrine in the distance.
“Shimada Suisan” has an oyster hut in Miyajimaguchi. The 70-minute all-you-can-eat oysters (with oyster rice) for 2,300 yen (plus charcoal) for adults are recommended for those who have high performance and confident that they can eat a lot quickly. There is also an abundance of oyster menus, so you can enjoy various things (extra charge). The shelled or peeled oysters that can be bought at direct sales places are perfect as souvenirs.
