Online reservations required for admission to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum during the Obon holiday period (August 8-16, 2026)

In recent years, the number of visitors to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum has increased significantly. During the Obon holidays in mid-August 2025, in particular, the museum experienced severe congestion throughout much of the day, making it difficult for visitors to move comfortably within the facility.

As similar crowding is anticipated during this year’s Obon holidays, the museum will conduct a trial of an online reservation-only admission system. This measure is intended to help maintain a safe and comfortable viewing environment, while also gathering data to support the development of future measures.

Visitors are encouraged to reserve early morning or evening admission slots, when the museum is generally less crowded. In addition, to promote greater use of both the online reservation system and the newly renovated museum shop, Peace Creation Factory, the museum will also conduct a trial sale of premium admission tickets.

1. Reservation-only admission

(1) Period: August 8 (Sat) to August 16 (Sun), 2026
- During this period, in principle, admission will generally be limited to only visitors who have purchased tickets online in advance. Admission capacity will be limited to 1,000 visitors per hour.
-If tickets remain available, visitors may make reservations and purchase tickets on the day of their visit using a smartphone or other device.

Note: visitors who are unable to make an online reservation, such as those without a smartphone, are asked to contact the museum information desk.

(2) Ticket sales schedule for the Obon holiday period
-Domestic individual visitors, groups of 30 or more adults, and school groups: sales began on May 29 (Fri), 2026
-International individual visitors: sales began on June 3 (Wed), 2026

2. Sale of premium admission tickets (admission + voucher package)

(1) Valid period: August 8-16, 2026 (9 days)
-Sales dates are the same as in Section 1(2)

(2) Details

In addition to the regular admission ticket (200 yen), a premium admission ticket (500 yen) will be available exclusively through the online reservation system. The premium ticket includes:
-Admission to the permanent exhibition
-A 500-yen shopping voucher redeemable at the museum shop, which is dedicated to promoting peace

Revenue generated from purchases made using premium vouchers at the museum

shop will be used to support peace-related initiatives.

 Note: premium admission tickets are not available to visitors who are exempt from admission fees (including junior high school students and younger) and groups of 30 or more adults
