In the Edo period, there are remains of an ochaya (honjin) where daimyo and dignitaries of the shogunate stayed. At that time, it was the largest of the nine headquarters in the Hiroshima Domain. It was demolished in the Meiji period, and now the Honjin Gomon Gate has been restored. The stone walls are lined with old random piles and modern troughs.

Saijo Sake Brewery Street prospered as an overland relay during the Edo period. After that, it became a famous brewery called “Sake Capital Saijo” due to the benefits of climate and groundwater suitable for sake brewing. Even now, there are seven breweries lined up here, and sake brewing continues with traditional techniques. The unique townscape, such as red brick chimneys, namako walls, and Saijo lattice, is attractive.
