    Takehara is known as the “Little Kyoto of Aki” due to its history of prospering as a manor of Shimogamo Shrine in Kyoto during the Heian period.

    The symbol of this is the townscape preservation district, which has been selected as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings of the country with a calm atmosphere.

    In the Edo period, massive houses were born from the prosperity of salt pans when the town developed dramatically as a salt production area, and townspeople culture have been conveyed to this day.
