45th Anniversary Nezumi-kun's Waistcoat Exhibition: The World of Noriko Ueno
Please enjoy the warm world created by Nezumi-kun and his friends
The picture book “Nezumi-kun's Waistcoat” (published in 1974) is loved across generations. The popular work, which surpassed 4.7 million copies in the series and reached its 45th anniversary in 2019, was created by artist Nakae Yoshi and painter Noriko Ueno through the collaborative work of her husband and wife. It has attracted attention with its black and white pictures drawn with pencils, minimal sentences, and beautiful compositions that make use of margins, and has won the hearts of many children.
Approximately 180 original picture book drawings, sketches, etc. including the latest works in the series will be exhibited in this exhibition. Also, original drawings from the picture book “Chii-chan no Kage Okuri” (text: Amankimiko), which thought about peace and war, which was created by Mr. Ueno and which were published in elementary school textbooks, and works from the surrealist oil painting “Shoujo Chiko” series will also be exhibited, and the world of Ueno-san's paintings will be introduced.
Nezumi-kun, who has a small body but a kind heart, is like a friend who is close to a child's heart. Please take this opportunity to enjoy the warm world created by Nezumi-kun and his friends.
