Higashihiroshima City 50th Anniversary Recollection Vision The Past, Present, and Future of Higashihiroshima
This exhibition, which is at the end of the year of the 50th anniversary of the implementation of the city system, focuses on the history of this town based on memories that are being lost in the present day, and strangely enough, we look at the future of this city while repeating feelings for peace in this year that marks 80 years after the war.
Based on stories obtained through dialogue with people living in that area, Usami Masahiro develops the “Manda-la” series, where the central character is placed on the screen, the history and social background of the region are arranged locally like a mandala (mandala) around it, and completes a single photograph, both domestically and internationally.
The “Manda-la in Higashihiroshima” project carried out for this exhibition focused on the red tile landscape, which is a characteristic landscape of Higashihiroshima, and created a large photo work showing the history of atomic bomb survivor relief in Higashihiroshima during the war, starting from the history and culture of sake brewing that developed in modern times, together with many participants.
In addition to the completed work, we will also introduce the production process of the project, which includes interviews with citizens about sake brewing, wartime situations, peace activities, etc., as a documentary video.
Furthermore, in the series focusing on “red roofs” leading to “Manda-la in Higashihiroshima,” various red roofs such as corners of the brewery district, temples, countryside, seaside, schools, etc. are captured from a high position, and the scenery of red roofs is presented from a fresh perspective.
Also, through watch dials owned by people from Higashihiroshima, Hiroshima, and even overseas, we will be exhibiting a bird's-eye view of the time we live in the present, as we move towards the future, through a large group of photographs, under the theme of “8:15,” which suggests everything from the past to the present to the future.
