One of Japan's most beautiful gorges! The world's three largest natural bridges, "Obashi Bridge," and spectacular activities at Lake Shinryu
This vast gorge, stretching approximately 18km across Shobara City and Jinsekikogen Town in Hiroshima Prefecture, is a nationally designated scenic spot. Its unique landscape, formed over long periods of erosion of a limestone karst plateau, is a testament to its beauty. As a representative scenic spot of the Chugoku Mountains, visitors can enjoy the changing seasons and geological formations.
In the northern "Kamitaishaku" area, you can stroll along the stream-side promenade, visiting the 200m deep Hakun-do cave and the 8m high natural archway "Oni no Karamon." The main attraction is the Onbashi bridge, a nationally designated natural monument. At 90m long and 40m high, it is Japan's largest natural bridge and is considered one of the world's three greatest natural bridges.
In the Shinryuko Lake area on the south side, you can enjoy close-up views of cliffs and unique rock formations from the water by sightseeing boat or kayak. Various activities such as Segways and amphibious vehicles are available along the lakeshore, offering a wealth of experiences that take advantage of the great outdoors. It is also famous as a spot for fresh greenery in spring and autumn foliage, and in autumn in particular, the vibrant trees reflected on the lake surface create a beautiful landscape. When strolling around, wear comfortable shoes, and when visiting limestone caves, it is a good idea to bring a light jacket even in summer.
