A monument to the birthplace of Rokkaku Shisui, who made great achievements in the world of lacquer crafts

This stone monument was erected at the site of Rokkaku Shisui's birthplace. Rokkaku Shisui (1866-1950) was a lacquer artist active throughout the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods, and was a leading figure in the world of lacquer craft. In addition to his creative activities, he also made brilliant contributions to the development of colored lacquer and the restoration of the Chusonji Kondo temple and Itsukushima Shrine. The kirin design on Kirin Beer was designed by him.
