The only park in Higashihiroshima city with a panoramic view of the Seto Inland Sea
This park is located in the mountains near Shofukuji Temple, about a 15-minute walk east from JR Akitsu Station.
Offering a panoramic view of the calm Seto Inland Sea, unique to Akitsu, on clear days you can even see all the way to Shikoku. It's also famous as a cherry blossom viewing spot, attracting many visitors from within and outside the prefecture during cherry blossom season. There are two observation decks, and from the one jutting out toward the sea, you can see countless oyster rafts below, providing a unique sense of the region's character. In addition to benches and tables for relaxing, the park also has playground equipment like swings and slides in the plaza along the mountain path, making it a great place for cherry blossom viewing or a picnic.
Shofukujiyama Park is also known as a famous cherry blossom viewing spot, with approximately 1,000 Somei-Yoshino cherry trees in bloom within the park. During the cherry blossom season, the entire park is decorated with lanterns, allowing you to enjoy the cherry blossoms at night. You can enjoy a beautiful night view, including the lights of the shipyard cranes located in Mitsu Bay and the "man-no-ji" (literally, "Man'o") lights that are lit up at this time of year and installed on Mount Hono in reference to Manyo Village. For a limited time, food trucks and local restaurants sell snacks and drinks, and local people come up with creative ideas to liven up the event every year.
