The temple predates the construction of Mihara Castle, which was sung in children's songs. In the precincts, there are monuments of celebrities such as Saneatsu Mushanokoji.
As a children's song goes, "There are many temples in Mihara, but the oldest is Shojuji Temple," Mannenzan Shojuji Temple was founded behind Honmachi Jojuji Temple in 1365, before the construction of Mihara Castle, but during the time of Tadamasa, the third lord of Asano Castle, it was moved to the site of Raigoji Temple in 1669, when Myoshoji Temple was built. Within the temple grounds, there are monuments bearing poems by famous people such as Mushanokoji Saneatsu, who wrote a poem on a pine post in the garden while he was staying at the temple, as well as former Minister of Health and Welfare Nakayama Masa and former Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives Takatsu Masamichi.
