A long-established inn that has been around since the Taisho period, surrounded by the clear waters of the Saijo River and mountains that change with the seasons.
Takamo Onsen was discovered by a mining engineer during the Taisho era, and was known as Lamp Inn at the time for its location deep in the mountains. It is surrounded by mountains on both sides, and in front of it, the clear waters of the Saijo River meander, offering a natural landscape reminiscent of a beautiful landscape painting. In the spring, the hot springs begin with the fresh greenery, and in the summer, enthusiasts gather to enjoy forest bathing and fishing for sweetfish in the Saijo River, where they can also enjoy dishes made with the sweetfish they have caught. In the fall, the area is known as the Village of Beautiful Autumn, and the autumn leaves all over the mountain are a sight to behold. In the winter, the hot springs can be enjoyed throughout the year, with year-end and New Year parties and snowy scenery. Cuisine includes wild mountain vegetables in the spring, wild sweetfish dishes in the summer, natural cuisine such as mushrooms in the fall, and hot pot dishes in the winter, with the main dish being carp dishes (all year round), which are becoming less common these days.
