It is an ancient temple that is said to have been built in the 2nd year of Wado (709).
The principal image of the temple is Taishakuten, the deity that gave the Taishaku Gorge its name. It has long been worshipped by samurai, farmers, merchants and industrialists as a bringer of wealth and power. The temple also houses an iron bell donated by Nagao Kazukatsu, lord of Tojo Castle, during the Keicho era as a temple treasure. It is said that there are three temples in Japan that are associated with Taishakuten, and Eimyo-ji is one of them. It was also one of the possible locations for the filming of the "Otoko wa Tsurai yo" movie series. Unfortunately, it is currently not possible to enter the temple.
