If you climb the promenade for about 20 minutes, you will arrive at the observatory
The area around Mt. Kamamine (788m above sea level) is a national forest, and the huge group of Quercus serrata trees that spread along the hiking trail is said to be the largest in western Japan. There is also a colony of Mitsumata trees at the foot of the mountain, making it the perfect place for forest bathing. Near the peak, there are castle ruins and an observation deck, from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Chugoku Mountains. It takes about 30 minutes to climb from the parking lot via a promenade, making this a forest park that is just the right size for beginners to hiking and mountain climbing. Kamamine Shrine (Tengu Shrine) was built on the cliff halfway up, and is worshiped as a god of war. There is also a cave (Gankutsudo), where it is said that Yamanaka Shikanosuke, a military commander of the Sengoku period daimyo Amako clan, trained. A giant Tengu mask is displayed at the mountain gate to welcome visitors.
