It is the guardian deity of the Yoshina area, and although the date of its founding is unclear, a long time ago a fisherman named Rokurozaemon picked up a shiny stone in the sea, discarded it, and cast his net in another place, where the same stone was caught again. This is said to be the origin of the auspicious event, and the shrine's name comes from the fact that this stone was enshrined. Kobayakawa Takakage also had deep reverence for the shrine, and it is said that he dedicated a renga poem of 100 verses of Horaku to the shrine on the occasion of the Bunroku Invasion (1592), praying for lasting military fortune. This renga poem consists of three volumes, dated 1539 (Tenbun 8), 1557 (Kōji 3), and 1560 (Eiroku 3), and is still preserved at the shrine.
