When the salt industry was thriving, along with Kodo, it was worshipped as the guardian deity of the area known as Kamiichi and Shimoichi. As a boundary deity in modern urban development, it is also one of the precious historical sites along with Kodo. The building was lost in a fire in Shimoichi village in 1604. The current building was built in 1927.
