The origin of Fukuyama, the city of roses, a park of relaxation

Fukuyama, the city of roses, began in 1956 when local residents planted approximately 1,000 rose seedlings in an effort to "revitalize the city devastated by war and bring peace to people's hearts." By 1965, the park had taken on much of its current form, and residents began to call it "Rose Park." 7,000 colorful roses of 670 varieties bloom in full bloom. In mid-May, the Fukuyama Rose Festival, Fukuyama's largest event, is held with Rose Park as one of its main venues.
