Japan's largest existing nightlight in the Edo period

This Joyato stands to the south of the gangi on the west side of Tomo Port. It is the symbol of Tomonoura. Built in 1859, this lighthouse has guided ships in and out of the port. It is 5.5m high and 11m from its underwater base to its crown, making it the largest Joyato still standing from the Edo period in Japan. Together with the gangi and the Funabansho, it tells the history of the port of Tomonoura.
