Japan's largest existing nightlight in the Edo period

This Joyato light stands to the south of the gangi on the west side of Tomo Port. It is a symbol of Tomonoura.
Built in 1859, this lighthouse has guided ships in and out. It is 5.5m high and measures 11m from its underwater base to its crown, making it the largest surviving Joyato light from the Edo period in Japan.
Together with the gangi and Funabansho, it tells the history of Tomonoura port.
