A part of the steamship "Iroha Maru" on which Ryoma Sakamoto was on display

Using an Edo-period storehouse as it is, part of the steamship "Iroha Maru" on which Sakamoto Ryoma rode has been salvaged and is on display. There is also a section that recreates Ryoma's hiding place, which was discovered in the house where Ryoma stayed in Tomo-cho. The Iroha Maru incident occurred in 1867 (Keio 3) when the "Iroha Maru," carrying Sakamoto Ryoma and other members of the Kaientai, collided with a ship from the Kishu Domain off the coast of Tomonoura, causing the "Iroha Maru" to sink.
