Lake Sensui

This artificial lake was created in 1933 when a 60m-high dam was constructed in the "Otomari" area of the gorge to store water for the construction of a hydroelectric power plant. In September 1956, work began on raising the lake by 10.5m, a first in Japan, and it was completed in May 1959, and remains as Otomari Dam to this day. Located upstream of the scenic Takiyama Gorge, the beauty of the lake is reflected in the colorful waters of the lake, with fresh greenery, autumn leaves, and a silver world, providing visitors with a different atmosphere each season.
