Asunaro of Toshimi

A prefectural natural monument. There is a town hall branch office in Kotoya, Kitahiroshima-cho, and about 300m east of there, on a west-facing slope, there is an isolated Asunaro tree. Asunaro, whose name is said to be derived from the phrase "Let's become a cypress tomorrow," is a tall evergreen coniferous tree of the cypress family, and although it resembles a cypress, it is much wider. The Asunaro tree in Toshimi was planted, but taking into account the harsh growing environment, it is estimated to be about 250 years old. It is about 19m tall and has a trunk circumference of 2.8m at chest height.
