It was enshrined as the guardian deity of Ondo-cho after being relocated and rebuilt during the Tenpyo era.

The main deity was enshrined during the Tenpyo-Hō era, over 1200 years ago, and the main deity enshrined is Emperor Ojin, with Empress Jingū and Tamayorihime also enshrined. Due to wars in the Middle Ages, the shrine was temporarily returned to Yano, but in 1560 it was moved from Ozaki Shrine in Yano to Tono, and then to this shrine. In 1576, Kobayakawa Takakage rebuilt it, and it has since been renovated two or three times, and is enshrined as the guardian deity of Ondo-cho. It was founded in 1191.
