Weeping cherry tree designated as a natural monument in Kitahiroshima Town

The tree has a circumference of 3.2m, a height of 10m, and is estimated to be about 420 years old. Chiku-in Temple, which was rebuilt in 1652 and spread the Soto sect of Buddhism, was abandoned in the Meiji era. This weeping cherry tree decorated the garden of the temple, which was knocked down by a typhoon in 1943, but was restored with the help of villagers, and is still a delight to the eyes.
