The origin of the romantic name and the history of old battles remain.
Mount Kinkozan is a small mountain located southeast of Hiroshima City, 221.7 meters above sea level, but it was formerly known as Nihojima, an island floating in Hiroshima Bay. During the Muromachi period, Niho Castle was built on the mountain's 221.7 meter summit. It is also a place with a history of ancient battles. Kannonji Temple, located on the north side of Mount Kinkozan, was built as the family temple of Miura Mototada, who was in charge of Niho Castle during the Mori clan era. The mountain's name is actually "Mount Kinkozan," and it is said that the place name "Mount Kinkozan" first appeared here. Long ago, fires were lit on the summit of Mount Kinkozan to ensure the safety of ships sailing offshore, and smoke rose up from the mountain. There are various theories about the origin of the name, including one that the fire was golden and scorched the sky, and another that the color of the sunset over the island looked golden. The origin of the name is full of romance and is still told to this day. (The North Observation Zone has been completed.
