A sunken garden built for friendship and exchange with Hannover, Germany, which shares the desire for peace.

This garden was created in 1980 for the purpose of friendship and cultural exchange, based on the shared desire for peace between Hiroshima and Hannover, West Germany, which had risen from the complete destruction of World War II. It is a sunken garden modeled after a part of the flower bed in Hannover's Herrenhausen Park. The garden represents the city's coat of arms.
