There is also a resource room where you can view materials related to the atomic bomb and peace, as well as handwritten manuscripts by writers connected to Hiroshima.

In October 1931, the library was donated by the Asano family, the former feudal lords of Hiroshima, and opened as Hiroshima City Asano Library. In October 1974, it was renamed Hiroshima City Central Library, and was relocated to its current location. On the second floor, there is a space where you can borrow books and enjoy reading, as well as a reading room where you can read the latest newspapers and magazines. On the third floor, there is the Hiroshima Reference Room, which provides materials related to the local area, the atomic bomb, and peace, the Hiroshima Literature Reference Room, where you can see the handwritten manuscripts of writers with deep ties to Hiroshima, and a reference reading room where you can research and consult on materials, use the Internet, and use commercial databases. In addition, the library also holds special exhibitions in the exhibition hall on the second floor and various lectures from time to time. As a service for the disabled, in addition to books, cassette books and digital audio books can be borrowed by mail, face-to-face readings can be read, and equipment such as an automatic text-to-speech machine can be used. The library also houses the Hiroshima City Visual Culture Library.
