Radiation Effects Research Foundation Hiroshima Research Institute

Research on the effects of radiation on a scale unlike any other in the world

With the cooperation of atomic bomb survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and their children, this institute investigates and studies the effects of radiation on the human body. For nearly 70 years, it has been conducting large-scale research into the effects of radiation on human health, which is unprecedented worldwide. The results of this research are widely disseminated around the world, and the research of this institute is the basis for the world's radiation protection standards. For example, how much radiation can you be exposed to without any effects when undergoing an X-ray at a hospital or boarding an airplane? Furthermore, the research of this institute is also the basis for guidelines on tasks that require caution with radiation and work in outer space.
