Radiation Effects Research Foundation Hiroshima Research Institute

Research on the effects of radiation on a scale unlike any other in the world

This research institute investigates and studies the effects of radiation on the human body with the cooperation of atomic bomb survivors and second-generation survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It has been almost 70 years since we conducted a large-scale study, unprecedented anywhere in the world, regarding the effects of radiation on human health. The results of our research are widely disseminated to the world, and the world's radiation protection standards are based on our research. For example, when undergoing an X-ray examination at the hospital or riding on an airplane, how much radiation can you be exposed to without causing any side effects? Furthermore, guidelines for work that requires attention to radiation and work in outer space are based on our research.
