Thousand cherry blossoms at the peak of the tower

Tonomine is located on Sagishima, a remote island in Mihara City. When the cherry blossoms are in full bloom around the beginning of April, a tunnel of cherry blossoms will be created on the promenade that goes around this peak. As the depopulation and aging of the island progresses, cherry tree planting activities are carried out continuously every year in fallow fields around Tonomine as a measure to revitalize the area, and more than 1,000 cherry trees have been planted. In 1997, Mukoda Ward received the Director-General of the Forestry Agency Award at the National Tree-Planting Activity Contest in recognition of the residents' hand-made activities. Since 2013, we have introduced a cherry tree owner system to increase the number of tourists from outside the island.
