The Nukiho Festival is a harvest festival also known as the New Grain Festival. The first ears of rice planted at the Ontaue Festival are harvested and offered to the altar. In Imabari, the Nukiho Festival held at Oyamazumi Shrine is famous and takes place every year on the 9th of the 9th month of the lunar calendar. A one-man sumo match is also dedicated, in which the person wrestles with the invisible spirit of the rice. This one-man sumo match is designated as an intangible folk cultural property of Ehime Prefecture. (This festival is only held for a limited time.)
