The only rest house in Peace Memorial Park that still retains its appearance before the atomic bombing.
On July 1, 2020, the Peace Memorial Park Rest House reopened after renovations. [History of the Rest House] The Rest House was built in 1929 (Showa 4) as the Taishoya Kimono Store. At that time, the building's modern, reinforced concrete exterior was a symbol of Nakajima Honmachi, amid a row of wooden houses with tiled roofs. What was new was not only the structure of the building, but also the first floor with show windows, and the second and third floors were also sales floors, which was unusual at the time and allowed you to go up to the top with your footwear on. Also, you could see a panoramic view of the city from the roof of the building. Due to the wartime regime, the textile control order issued in December 1943 closed down kimono stores.
