The former Hiroshima Local Meteorological Observatory building built in 1930 is preserved and maintained, allowing you to have fun learning about the weather.

The main building of the Meteorological Museum is a preserved and renovated former office building of the Hiroshima Regional Meteorological Observatory, built in 1934. It is a valuable building that retains the characteristics of reinforced concrete architecture from the early Showa period, and is designated as an Important Tangible Cultural Property by Hiroshima City. Inside, walls with glass fragments broken by the blast are preserved, and materials such as records of atomic bomb investigations by the observatory staff at the time are also on display. You can also visit the north exterior wall facing the hypocenter. In the video corner, a video of the novel "Blank Weather Map" (written by Kunio Yanagita), which describes the state of the meteorological observatory at the time of the bombing, is also screened. Currently, as a meteorological museum, you can learn about the weather while having fun through experience exhibits such as the "Gust Capsule" where you can experience the strength of the wind, and the "Typhoon Box" where you can experience the feeling of being inside a cloud. In addition, science shows and science workshops are held mainly on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, allowing children and adults alike to enjoy science. (Please check the website for detailed schedules.)
