Chugoku-Shikoku Civil Engineering Branch Office Staff Martyr Monument

A monument commemorating the 52 employees who died in the line of duty due to the atomic bomb.

At the time of the bombing, the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Chugoku-Shikoku Civil Engineering Office was located inside the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall (now the Atomic Bomb Dome), and it was hit directly by the atomic bomb, with 52 employees losing their lives in the line of duty. On the front of the monument is inscribed a eulogy by Ichiro Abe, the office's director at the time, which reads, "The people who fell victim to the atomic bomb are the foundations of a peaceful world."
