A monument commemorating the town of Zaimoku, which was destroyed by the atomic bomb and disappeared.

Date of construction: August 6, 1957 Zaimokucho is a corner of the Nakajima district that once flourished as the center of the city's downtown and entertainment district. As the name suggests, lumber wholesalers gathered during the domain era. Lumber was being collected and distributed along the river. The spacious residential area is lined with temples with a long history, including Seiganji Temple, which was one of the largest in Hiroshima, and the Kasamori of Myohoji Temple and the Koyasu Kannon statue of Anrakuin Temple, which are familiar to the citizens and create a tranquil atmosphere. It had a downtown atmosphere. However, just 500m from the epicenter, the town was destroyed in an instant. Many of the residents, as well as the neighboring town, were designated as building evacuation areas, so many junior high school students and female students who were mobilized for the work were among the casualties.
