A monument commemorating the town of Zaimoku, which was destroyed by the atomic bomb and disappeared.

Established on August 6, 1957. Zaimokucho is a part of the Nakajima district, which once flourished as the center of the city's entertainment and entertainment district. As the name suggests, lumber wholesalers gathered here during the feudal era, and lumber was collected and distributed along the river. The spacious residential area was lined with historic temples, including Seiganji Temple, one of the largest in Hiroshima. Kasamori-san Temple at Myohoji Temple and Koyasu Kannon Temple at Anrakuin Temple were beloved by local residents, giving the area a peaceful, downtown feel. However, just 500 meters from the hypocenter, the town was destroyed in an instant. Not only the residents, but also junior high school students and female students who were mobilized to help with the demolition work, as the area was designated as a building demolition area along with the neighboring towns, were killed in large numbers, dying in horrible scenes. The burnt-out town disappeared after the war when it became Peace Memorial Park.
