Floating pond with cenotaph for the atomic bomb victims

Date of construction: August 3, 1957. The pond surrounds the Memorial Monument for the Atomic Bomb Victims, and was designed to make the monument appear to float. It is 17m wide and 70m long. When it was first built, it was a 2m wide pond that surrounded the monument on three sides, but when the "Light of Peace" was installed on August 1, 1964, the Light of Peace Installation Committee expanded the rear of the pond to 17m wide and 70m long, giving it its current shape. The Light of Peace Support Association continues to provide cleaning services twice a year, at the end of July and December.
