The Enduring Peace Monument erected jointly by the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Lions Clubs

Date erected: June 24, 1984 (Showa 59) The Hiroshima West Lions Club donated relief funds to the Nagasaki West Lions Club in response to the record-breaking torrential rains that hit Nagasaki Prefecture in 1982, which led to the two clubs becoming sister clubs. This monument was erected to commemorate that event, when it was agreed that the same "peace monument" would be erected in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On either side of the stone slab is an inscription in both English and Japanese that reads, "This monument is erected by the clubs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, sister cities that share the experience of the atomic bombing, as a symbol of lasting peace for all mankind."
