Hanazono Kiln is the only doll kiln in the prefecture. The Miyoshi dolls created at this kiln are said to have originated in the Kan'ei era (around 1633), when Miyoshi feudal lord Asano Nagaharu brought back a doll maker from Asakusa in Edo and gave these clay dolls as gifts to his retainers every time they had a child. After that, research and improvements were continued, and the dolls became beautiful and elegant dolls with a unique luster, also known as "hikari ningyo." At this kiln, painting is only done in the middle of winter, as a way to bring out beautiful colors and consideration for the coloring of the glue. It is a perfect souvenir for children.
