[Date of construction] July 1966 (Showa 41) [Established by] Matsumoto Commercial High School [History] Matsumoto Commercial School was reorganized as Matsumoto Technical School in 1944 (Showa 19) as a result of national policy. The school suffered heavy damage, mainly among first-year students who had been remobilized from their factories to help with building evacuation near the prefectural office in Mizunushi-cho (now Kako-cho) (900 meters from the hypocenter). The monument was erected to commemorate the 50 or so staff and students who lost their lives. In 1972 (Showa 47), the school was renamed Setouchi High School. *Please contact us in advance if you wish to visit (please call 082-261-1296 with the desired date and time of visit, the representative's name, the number of visitors, and contact information).
