The temple where the "Eternal Flame" is located

The Reikado (Sacred Fire Hall), dedicated to Fudo Myoo (Acala), boasts an eternal flame that has burned for over 1200 years. This "eternal flame" was lit by Kobo Daishi Kukai during his ascetic training on Mount Misen in Miyajima during the Heian period. Water boiled with this flame is considered sacred water, believed to have healing properties for all illnesses. Furthermore, it serves as the source of the "Flame of Peace" in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, a symbol of peace.

*Following a fire in May 2026, reconstruction efforts are underway.

(We are continuing discussions with all parties involved regarding the reconstruction of the Reikado, and intend to move forward step by step.)
