A place where you can learn about the history of the former Navy and the preciousness of peace
This is the former site of the former Naval Academy, which was a base for training naval officers, and is currently home to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force's Officer Candidate School and First Technical School. Part of the facility is open to the public, and you can tour historic buildings such as the main auditorium and the Officer Candidate School building (former Naval Academy student hall). The Education Reference Museum also stores about 16,000 items, including documents related to the former navy, of which about 1,000 are on display. In particular, the letters and belongings left by the kamikaze special attack pilots are deeply moving to visitors.
