A temple standing on a cliff where the spray of a waterfall dances
Its official name is Takinozan Enjoji Temple (Nyoirin-do), and it is the 17th of the 33 temples in Aki Province. It was built in 1588 by Fukuhara Dewa-no-kami Sadatoshi, a vassal of Mori Motonari, and after three reconstructions it was finally rebuilt in 1924. The current building is located on a huge rock facing the cliff directly above the waterfall, and is a two-ken square copper-plated reed building surrounded by a corridor. It houses statues of the Eleven-Headed Kannon Bodhisattva, the Bodhisattva Seishi, and the Dragon King Buddha. There is a 10m-high waterfall in the valley stream from the peak to the left of the building, and it is called Kannon Falls.
