Mr. Tetsuya Takahara

Mr. Tetsuya Takahara

Head of Marubeni Chugoku Branch

Born in 1970 in Osaka. After graduating from Osaka University, he joined Marubeni Corporation in 1993. Since 2019, he worked in Hiroshima for the first time as a branch office manager of the Marubeni Chugoku Branch. My hobby is fishing that I started in earnest from 5 years ago and I belong to the Marubeni Fishing Club.

The Seto Inland Sea, with its gentle waves and the scenic beauty of its many islands, actually has many fishing spots. Mr. Takahara is a member of the company's fishing club and used to participate in boat fishing in Sagami Bay and the Boso Peninsula when he lived in Yokohama.

He took us on a fishing tour of Hiroshima and said, “In Hiroshima, I fish for ‘Tai’ (Sea Bream) all year round, and go to the sea almost every weekend in pursuit of seasonal fish such as ‘Mebaru’ (Rockfish), ‘Madako’ (Octopus) and ‘Isaki’ (Grunt).”

Let's spend an active day of fishing with Mr. Takahara, who, in his third year working away from his family, and has mastered all the fishing spots of Hiroshima and knows all about the healing hot springs and restaurants that serve delicious fish.

Choose a fully-equipped boat and make your own memories!

If you want to go sea fishing by boat, first make a reservation in advance. A search on the Internet will bring up many fishing boats, so please call and make a reservation. Setouchi Fishing Service, which departs from Tanna Port, offers affordable fishing boats with a variety of services.

You can enjoy conversations with other fishermen on a shared boat, but if you want to spend time with your family or colleagues in peace, chartering a boat is the way to go. This time we chose the Funai Maru, a large boat. It is equipped with large cabins with air conditioning and heating. Each fishing seat is equipped with a faucet and power supply for electric reels.

    The Seto Inland Sea

    Travel time : 200 minutes

    2/4

Be moved by the calm waves and the scenery of the islands.

There are many ways to have fun besides just fishing!
Spend time on the boat with a memorable view of the Seto Inland Sea.

Those who go out to the Seto Inland Sea for the first time will surely be amazed by the spectacular view of the sea and islands. The destination may change depending on the fish you want to catch, but when going east, you will enjoy the moment you pass the Ondo Bridge in Kure.

In the spring, you can fish for “Mebaru” (Rockfish) and “Madai” (Sea Bream), in the summer for “Isaki” (Grunt) and “Oo-Aji” (Big Horse Mackerel), and in the fall and winter for “Tachi-Uo” (Cutlass Fish) and “Hamachi” (Yellowtail).

If you get hungry on the boat, cup noodles are a good choice. Since you will be on the boat for a surprisingly long time, it is recommended that you buy some food the day before to enjoy on the boat. If you don't have to drive your car after the fishing trip, you can also have a drink. Ramen and beer with a spectacular view is a treat!

In the Seto Inland Sea, where the waves are calm, there is relatively little need for concern about seasickness. Just don't drink too much the day before or on the day of your trip to make sure you're prepared ☺.

The hot springs will relax your tired body and make you lose track of time.

The hot springs are the best choice after enjoying fishing. You can rinse off your body after getting sticky from the sea water.

Ujina Natural Hot Spring Hono-yu, not far from Tanna Port, has a variety of baths to choose from. My favorite is the "dozing bath" with its lightly flowing water and comfortable stone pillows. We find ourselves falling asleep and losing track of time. There is also a natural hot spring bath, a rock bath, a carbonated spring that promotes blood circulation, a sauna, and a relaxation bath.

After taking a bath, relaxing in the rest area is bliss. There is also a massage room that offers various courses, so it is nice to have a massage.

All of the dishes prepared by the owner, who was trained at a famous hotel, are excellent.

Processing your own fish is fine, but if you want to ensure a delicious meal, leave it to the professionals. At "Creation Dish shige" in Matoba-cho, you can bring in your catch and have it made into a course meal. If you don't have any fish, don't worry because they will combine ingredients from the restaurant. Japanese, Italian, and French dishes are prepared to your taste, and you can reminisce with your friends who enjoyed fishing with you.

The owner has a long history as both a chef and a fisherman, so he is extremely good at bringing out the best taste in seafood. The “ochazuke” (tea poured over rice) with sesame sauce that comes at the end of the course is way to delicious !

It takes a certain amount of time to prepare the fish, so it’s best to bring the fish in right after you finish fishing. Let them know your preference as well.

    #Editor's Note

This tour, which starts early in the morning, will satisfy your body and mind. You should be able to sleep well at night. If you have a little more time, we highly recommend that you go and see the Kagura performance at the Hiroshima Prefectural Cultural Center. We went to see it without much expectation at first, but we were instantly hooked by the powerful performance and dance. Since the story is based on a myth, it is surprisingly easy to understand.
