“Zipangu: Contemporary Artists Who Made It Through Heisei” [Hiroshima Museum of Art]
While the Heisei era is negatively described as “the lost 30 years,” it is also an era where wonderful artists were active in the fields of fashion, architecture, anime, manga, and contemporary art, and received worldwide acclaim.
While capturing the context of contemporary art from around the world, their works, which were combined and transformed with Japanese culture and acquired unique expressions, all reflect the complexity and diversity of the times.
This exhibition captures Japanese contemporary art born in Heisei in a chronicle-like manner, and introduces works by artists representing Heisei and 29 groups of artists who are still showing outstanding activities today.
