Ruins of a castle that Takakage Kobayakawa used as his base

It is a mountain castle where the Kobayakawa family was based throughout the Kamakura and Muromachi periods. The summit of the 190m-high mountain is vast, and the ruins of Honmaru, Kitanomaru, Taiko-no-maru, Senjojiki, etc., and the stone wall of the dog pass that corresponds to the back door keep the old look. Takakage Kobayakawa, the third son of Motonari Mori, became the lord of Takehara Kobayakawa at the age of 12. After that, he inherited Numata Kobayakawa and put together two Kobayakawa clans. A year later, the fort on the other side of the Numata River, which had been used as a secondary base, was repaired, and "New Takayama Castle" was built, which was used as the base for about 45 years. There are still remains of the main enclosure, the steps of the Tsurii, the guardhouse, the steps of the bell, and the Higashinomaru, which are still filled with water. Both the Niitakayama Castle Ruins and the Takayama Castle Ruins are designated as National Historic Sites.
